#18 - Tori Wood - on psychological counseling, mental tools, FOMO, and how to have more fun!
May 03, 2023 Season 2 Episode 18
Jake Johnstone

In this episode, I caught up with Tori Wood for a chat right before the snow melted and bike season kicked back into gear.

Tori is a Mountain Biker based in Squamish and is an incredible fit for this show because she not only shreds on a bike, but she is also completing her master's degree in Psychological Counseling.

Having picked up riding only 5 or so years ago, Tori wasted no time and truly embraced diving headfirst into the sport.  She recently rose to mtb stardom as a contestant in season 2 of the Pink Bike Academy where she competed in her first-ever race in front of countless people online and trackside. Tori quickly became a fan favorite as she approached each challenge with her trademark grit and determination.

We get into all kinds of interesting topics during our conversation including:

  • Her gymnastics background,  and the lessons she learned, good and bad from an ultra-competitive environment.
  • How her Mental Health workshops are helping other mountain sports enthusiasts by providing much-needed awareness and tools.
  • FOMO, and how to navigate these feelings as a Mountain Biker.
  • Self-talk. The good, the bad, and the great!

And of course, we relate all of this back to practical tools you can implement in your own riding!

On Instagram, you can follow Tori's adventures and hear about her latest Mental Health in Mountain Sports seminars @torrgallore.

Enjoy!
